Unsent Letters

51x41cm
Collage, India Ink on Canvas Board
9/27/10

The theme for this piece is the relationship between mother and daughter, and the pride which both parties may suffer from, which ultimately, is what keeps their relationship non-existent. Though the letter-writer has not sent the letters (which are aged for that purpose, that she has kept them for years without coming in contact with her mother), she still feels love for her mother, denoted by the words "don't give up on me." As the letters go on, the running ink from tears, and the desperate handwriting reigns, and one can see that the lack of relationship with the letter-writer's mother is, indeed taking a toll, though pride won't let her remedy it.
